The Community Service Program at IBS is designed to equip students with practical skills while fostering a strong sense of responsibility and commitment. Through this program, students not only develop personally but also contribute meaningfully to the community and society as a whole. It encourages them to step beyond their comfort zones, nurture their passions, and positively impact society in constructive ways.
The program is founded on civic responsibility and purposeful action, with a dedicated focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This alignment ensures our community service projects contribute to global efforts for a sustainable and equitable world.
In close collaboration with Charity World, a UK-based organization supporting street children and village schools in India, our students participate in service-learning projects that enhance their classroom learning. By tackling local and national issues through practical projects, students gain the opportunity to reflect on their experiences and develop solutions to real-world challenges.
Our program empowers students to tackle social and environmental issues through initiatives like tree planting, organizing Sports Day for differently-abled students, providing shelter for street animals, and donating essential items such as books, toys, and food. These experiences not only benefit the community but also nurture compassion, empathy, and care in our students
We have set out on an ambitious mission to adopt 100 schools across India, aiming to provide them with quality infrastructure and education comparable to the best schools. This commitment involves repairing existing buildings, constructing new classrooms, toilets, libraries, and sports facilities, and equipping each school with essential teaching resources. All schools in this project will receive sustained support to ensure long-term impact.
The first school adopted under this initiative is Ajaib School, a rural institution in Rohtak, which opened in 2015. Located in the village where Charity World’s founder, Amar Dhull, was born and raised, the school initially lacked essential infrastructure—basic furniture, books, toilets, and even running water.
The second school in this initiative opened in January 2016, and together, the two schools now provide full-time education to 100 children. We are in the final stages of establishing additional schools in Noida, Delhi, and Gurgaon.
The CAS Programme at IBS has been running the Annapoorna Project for more than 15 years. The project involves our students running skill-based sessions with girls and women from the nearby settlement. There is a needlework class for women and sessions on art, dance, cervical cancer, financial literacy and more.
Parth Aggarwal, Year 12, is the Chief Operating Officer of Glass Up India. Their team has upcycled more than 10,000 bottles into innovative candles, and has collaborated with firms like DLF Camellias, Bellagio, Cosy Box, Comorin and more.
Adiva Goel, Year 12, founded The Ourchive Initiative to raise awareness about engagement with oral literature and storytelling. Partnering with the Delhi Council for Child Welfare (DCCW), she conducted interactive workshops for young adults at DCCW Palna, and children at the Delhi Bal Kalyan Parishad.
As the Youth Ambassador for the Indian Cancer Society, Adya Uppal, Year 13, has been crafting breast prostheses as well as prosthetic bras. She has donated 160 sets of these essentials to women from low-income backgrounds, under her initiative CanFree™.
CAS forms a core part of the IB Diploma Programme and is an essential part of every student’s DP experience. It is woven into the fortnightly timetable and provides real and purposeful activities to develop students into knowledgeable, principled and caring individuals through experiential learning.
A wide variety of CAS experiences such as creating music, teaching martial arts to girls for self-defense, spreading warmth through donations, and raising awareness through mental health projects play a great role in bridging the gaps to bring communities closer.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, service learning had moved to an online model with students initiating activities locally from their global locations, in the spirit of Think Global, Act Local.
